Why We are Here
The short answer is that we are here for the glory of God. We pray every day in the Lord’s Prayer, “Hallowed be Your name and Your Kingdom come”. We want to see the Lord’s name hallowed in Sunderland through faithful Biblical worship and souls being saved to His glory. We likewise want to see His kingdom grow and so when we consider that Sunderland has 300,000 souls and not one Confessional Presbyterian church we naturally want to plant one. We are also guided by God in this. He has blessed many from Sunderland who commute to our mother church in Gateshead and so it makes good sense to follow this up with a new work for Sunderland. Finally and personally, I was born in Sunderland. My life was transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ when I was twenty-two. The Lord has now called me to gospel ministry and I have no doubt as to His awesome power to redeem men, women, boys and girls. I want others to taste and see that the Lord is good!
We are not alone in this work. We are part of a young, growing, and godly denomination of Christ-loving and Christ-exalting churches. In just over twenty years, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in England and Wales has grown from five congregations to almost twenty. We are pleased to be part of this faithful, sound, and growing body.
